New Name. New Alliances. Renewed Commitment.
After 16 years, the Coalition of
Community Foundations for Youth has become CFLeads.
 Our new name signals a broadened scope – to help community
foundations learn how to create thriving communities that work
for all residents. This capacity-building work isn’t new
for us; it’s been central to our longstanding efforts to
advance communities for children, youth and families. Our new name
simply recognizes that community foundations can and should be
the catalyst for positive change that is required for all residents,
young and old, to prosper in our communities.
Since our inception in 1991, CFLeads has focused on stretching
the boundaries of community foundation leadership. Hundreds of
community foundations have participated in our peer networks, intense
learning activities, group site visits and a popular annual conference.
These have strengthened the ability of each to influence public
policy, change systems, increase equity and inclusion, and address
underlying issues in their own home communities.
Building on this history, CFLeads is pleased to be the community
leadership implementation partner for the Council
on Foundations’ Community
Foundations Leadership Team. We invite you
to learn more about our first activities together under CFLT’s new Plan of Action – the National Task Force on Community Leadership, Community
Leadership Networks, and the first in
a series of occasional papers on community leadership.
Further expanding the resources available to community foundations,
CFLeads has formed an alliance with the John W. Gardner
Center for Youth and Their Communities at Stanford University, a unique
partnership between a premier research university and local communities
to promote equitable, inclusive and productive environments for
youth and their communities. The Gardner Center lends unparalleled
expertise in nurturing place-based leadership and civic engagement.
CFLeads’ board and staff are delighted to enter this new
phase of partnership with community foundations and the field.
